About Tiny Room Life
Practical tools for renters, students and anyone making a small flat, studio or tiny house work.
What it does
Tiny Room Life answers the questions that come up when space is short: will the sofa fit through the door and round the hallway, how much room to leave beside the bed or behind a chair, where furniture can go in a room, how to space frames or shelves evenly, how much light a room needs, and how to clear things out a little at a time. Every tool works in inches, feet and centimetres.
How it works
Every calculation runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server, there is no account, and the pages keep working if your connection drops after they have loaded. Your room plan and your declutter checklist are saved in this browser only. The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views; it does not use cookies, and it never receives what you type into the tools.
Where the numbers come from
The fit checker and the wall spacing calculator are plain geometry. Clearance figures come from named sources, each cited where it is used: the National Kitchen & Bath Association's planning guidelines, the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, England's Approved Document M and Ireland's Universal Design Guidelines for Homes. Light levels are the Illuminating Engineering Society's residential recommendations as published by Penn State, and bulb brightness comes from ENERGY STAR. The one figure with no standard behind it, the gap between a sofa and a coffee table, is labelled as a rule of thumb.
A note of caution
Measurements and guidelines can only go so far. Measure twice, allow for wrapping and handles, and if you rent, ask your landlord before taking doors off or fixing things to walls.
